Wow.
That’s all I can say. Well, I’ll obviously say a few more things in this review, but that was my initial impression after the episode ended.
The acting was top notch like it was in seasons one & two, and yes, I did use the word ‘seasons’ there.
The script was fantastic. I liked the gradual build-up to everything, to what we can expect from the other twelve episodes that make up volume three. The image of the world cracking up into halves, and actually seeing it happening in Tokyo worked really well in my opinion.
I also liked the fact that the episode mainly focused on the characters we know already, rather than bombarding us with new ones, as that probably can be easily accomplished in episode two.
The scenes I loved the most were the ones with Sylar stalking Claire. I very rarely get scared watching T.V., but this did it for me. Zachary Quinto’s menacing acting, especially when he started humming, and Hayden Pannetiere’s realistic acting, especially when she was trapped in the cupboard, clinched it for me. Also, the discussion about what Sylar does with the brains added a brilliant balance of elements to the episode.
Finding out Peter was the assassin that shot Nathan was a real shock, and a nicely guarded secret by the production team. The future Peter’s differences to the present day Peter is making me wonder if Peter will become a villain during the volume.
I overall found this an excellent start to the series. I will be extremely pleased if the other episodes are as good as this one, or perhaps even better.
