This episode was a mix of good & bad, mostly average.
Like the first episode, the first half was worse than the second. The jokes were just too slow to begin with. The storyline started to make the show feel like a drama at some points, rather than a sitcom. It was nice for a bit, and a decent change for a short while, but it did seem out of place to me.
Another story-like feature, one that doesn’t feature too often in sitcoms, was the continuity. I enjoyed watching the montage of clips from both series one & series two, and the references to episode one of this series. It reminded me of how it has changed.
The outcome would have been better for a final episode of a series in my opinion, but I doubt much will change in the way of characters appearing, which could have happened if this was the final episode. Anyway, something might happen in a few episodes time, or it might not. We’ll see.
On the comedy side, the Diana part of the episode was hilarious. It was another great opportunity for Celia’s talents to shine. The Alex/Molly part was also very watchable. Even though you can predict that Alex will do something annoying to Molly, it is always different and expands his character more each time.
Overall, a bit hit & miss on the comedy side, but if this was about the drama, it would rate very highly indeed.
